Home Learning

We remain committed to keeping home learning manageable and meaningful and as such will continue to set weekly tasks for Key Stage Three classes on Sparx Reader and Sparx Maths, as well as Tassomai for Science and Humanities.

Students have access to homework/IT club 4 days a week, after school, where help and support is available. It is very important that students complete home learning on time as it develops their literacy and numeracy skills, as well as preparing them for the discipline of managing workload and time.

How can you help your child with their home learning?

  • Provide a quiet space for your child to focus on their homework each week.
  • Encourage them to start their homework early so they can get help from their teacher before the deadline if they get stuck. To ensure no gaps form in your child’s maths knowledge, homework is not marked as complete until all of the compulsory questions have been answered correctly.
  • Check the weekly email you’ll get from Sparx and praise your child for starting or completing their homework. Encourage them to finish it before the deadline if they haven’t already done so.
  • Try not to help your child with a question until they’ve had a go first. It is essential they try to complete their homework independently so that Sparx can give them questions that are at the right level for them. Remember they can watch the support videos if they need to.

What support is available at Weldon Village Academy?

  • Homework club is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday where students will have access to a computer.
  • An IT suite is available at lunchtime for students to access their homework if they are struggling to access it at home.
  • Students can make a note of the question they are struggling with and speak to their teacher (not on the day the homework is due).

We hope you agree that Sparx and Tassomai play an exciting and important role in growing your child’s understanding, success and confidence in core curriculum subjects.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s for tutor.
